Alyssa got a lot of cheap walmart fabric so that I could make this dress for her. There was a misunderstanding about how much fabric was needed for the lining though, so it's kind of on hold now. Also I've just been busy drawing and finishing school so I haven't gotten around to finishing it.

This is a stay. It's the first thing I've ever made that has boning. There were white chalk marks to help guide me as I sewed it. I sort of tried to brush it off... but that's as good as it got. I'll try again when it has trim so it won't unravel or anything. They won't be there when it's done. I've got some brown trim that just matches the plum color, but I'm hoping to find some black so that it'll match better. I ran out of grommets, so I'm waiting for someone to take me to walmart to get more.
This is the other side. The lining has a nice light floral design.
It'll look something like this when it's done:

I love the stays!!! *presses nose to screen* The only thing better than period costumes is period undergarments, IMVHO. ;-D And thank you for calling them "stays" and not a "corset"!! I do so appreciate it when people use the proper term. ;-D

Have you tried misting the chalk with water? I made my Regency stays with those stupid disappearing ink pens which stay when you want them to go away, and go away when you want them to stay. ;-P lol. I also did the grommets by hand. ^-^

Yeah, that's kind of annoying when they call them the wrong thing. :P

No, I haven't really tried much to get it off yet. First I'd like to put the trim on. I'm afraid my grommets aren't staying on too well. :( I bought a punch thing for them but it doesn't work very well. Then I ran out...

Anyway, thanks for commenting! :D

And to the Anonymous mom, like I said, I'm gonna wait. But I'll ask when I do.

It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine. 8-/ There is such a thing as innocent ignorance, but some people are willfully ignorant, I think. That really annoys me.

I was too chicken to use metal grommets on my Regency stays because I worried they would pull out. I used the directions on this site: and they turned out pretty well. I used small spring rings (they look like baby keychain rings) instead of jump rings.

You're welcome! My pleasure. Thank you for sharing your creations! :-D
